In furtherance to the activities lined up for the Nigerian Army Day celebration, soldiers of the 8th Division Sokoto, today Saturday impressed locals beyond words as they all went out to ensure a clean Sokoto and it’s environs.
The Army who turned out in their large numbers were seen assiduously doing the work of State Enviromental Protection Agency (SEMA) as well as that of the Feral Road Mainatance Agency (FERMA) as they carry out sanitation and fill potholes within the main Sokoto entrance route.
Speaking on the significance of the day, the 8th Division Garisson Commander, Brig Gen. Ralph Nnebeife, noted that the excercise is part of their Coprate Social Responsibilty as the Nigerian Army remained committed to robust military/civilian relationship.
According to Gen Ralph, the Nigerian Army would continue to maintain cordial relationship with the civilian populace as they are integral part of their efforts towards protecting the nation’s territorial integrity.
Gen Ralph while appreciating their cordial relationship that exist between the 8th Div Giginya Barracks and it’s immediate host communities of Danbua, Danger/Shuni as well as Kwanawa amongst others, assured that they would do everything humanly possible to ensure that the country is safe and free for all to go about their legitimate businesses without fears.
At the popular Danbua Roundabout in Sokoto Metropolis which has various potholes, the Garrison Commander, monitored the high spirited Army as they carry out the job of FERMA by refiling the potholes.
Though, filing the dreadful potholes caused mild gridlock, motorists were however very happy as they continued to wait patiently with praises for the Army for taking such a bold step.
Speaking to our Corespondent inside the gridlock, a commercial motorists, Salihu Shehu said, the Army have displayed uncommon love for the state by taking it up to fill one out of the many potholes in nearly all the roundabouts in the state metropolis.
