Association targets 25,000 hecters of rubber plantations in Cross River

PATRICK ABANG, Calabar –

The National President of Rubber Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NARPPMAN) Igbinosun Idowu Peter has assured that his association would target about 25,000 clones of rubber plantations in Cross River State.

“We have a roadmap for our development agenda for ten years and that plan is to establish 160,000 hecters of rubber plantations in 24 states in Nigeria and out of that number, we are to plant 25,000 hecters in Cross River State” he started.

Igbnosun disclosed this in Calabar during a courtesy call on the Cross River State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources Okon Owuna over the weekend.

Speaking further, the rubber expert said he was in the state because Cross River is one of the major Stakeholders in the rubber value chain with over 600 members..

“We are collaborating with some Multi Nationals in the Rubber Value Chain to develop rubber industries in Cross River State” he said.

He lamented that in the past nobody was speaking for rubber despite the huge potentials for the state and the national economy.

In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Okon Owuna, who was excited over the visit of NARPPMAN President, however, assured that the state government would partner with the association to develop the rubber industries.

“I want to assure you of the state government desire to work and partner with your association to develop our rubber plantations across the state” he said.
