Bauchi Assembly reelects Abubakar Suleiman as speaker

The Bauchi State House of Assembly, has elected Abubakar Suleiman, as Speaker for the second term. He was re-elected unopposed.

Suleiman, the immediate past Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, represents Ningi Central Constituency.

 

He was nominated by Mubarak Haruna representing Jama’are Constituency and seconded by Auwal Hassan representing Shira Constituency.

 

Jamilu Barade, the Member representing Bauchi metropolis, was elected deputy Speaker of the House.

 

The Deputy was nominated by Habibu Umar, representing Kirfi Constituency while Bello Jadori representing Gamawa Constituency seconded the motion.

 

They were both elected at the inauguration of the 10th Assembly of the House currently ongoing at the Assembly Complex, Bauchi.

 

After his election and swearing in, he read his acceptance speech and thereafter, swore in the 29 legislatures.

 

He expressed gratitude to the lawmakers for electing him Speaker for another term.

 

“I hereby accept this mandate and assure you that I will not betray your trust and confidence and there will be no preferential treatment among members.

 

“Today marks another milestone in the history of our democratic journey in Nigeria and Bauchi State in particular. I feel humbled and I give thanks and glory to Almighty Allah for sparing our lives to witness today’s occasion of the inauguration of the 10th Bauchi State House of Assembly.

 

“We are all equal and the State is our Constituency. There will be heated moments and there will be robust debates. In doing that, I will be the Speaker and the Speaker for all the Honourable House.

 

“Let me recognize and appreciate the new Deputy Speaker, Hon. Jamilu Umaru Dahiru. He is an honest, diligent, down-to-earth and loyal man. He demonstrated a high sense of commitment and service to his Constituents and the State at large particularly, during the 9th Assembly.

 

“My special gratitude goes to the good people of Ningi Constituency, who elected me to represent them in this Honourable House for the second consecutive term. Without your support and votes, I wouldn’t have been where I am today,” he said.

 

Suleiman assured the state government that the House of Assembly would work closely with them to make laws that will positively impact the lives of the citizens of the State.

 

He said: “I want to commend the last Assembly that despite having the majority in the opposition at the beginning, we set aside our differences and worked for the State and before the end of the 9th Assembly, the membership was almost balanced.

 

“The 9th Assembly succeeded in passing 105 bills into law, moved 131 motions, 93 matters of urgent importance, received 54 messages from the executive Governor, received 42 petitions and 102 committee reports were laid before the Assembly.”
