Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the death of a police constable, Ukasha Muhammed, who was shot and killed by a serving soldier during a routine patrol in the Bayan Gari area of Bauchi.
The tragic incident occurred on October 10, 2025, at approximately 10:35 p.m., during a routine operation led by Inspector Hussaini Samaila.
The command’s spokesman, CSP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement issued to NATIONAL ACCORD on Sunday in Bauchi.
CSP Wakil said the patrol team was attacked in front of Padimo Hotel by two individuals. One of the assailants was subdued and arrested, while the second managed to escape the scene.
He said the suspect in custody was identified as Private Usman Mubarak (23NA/84/5346), attached to the Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven, in Jos, Plateau State.
“However, just 30 minutes later—at around 11:05 p.m.—two other soldiers, later identified as Private Yakubu Yahuza (23NA/85/10185) and Private Godspower Gabriel (23NA/84/5654), arrived at the location armed and partially dressed in military fatigues” he said. Without warning, they opened fire on the police patrol team and shot Constable Ukasha Muhammed in the chest at close range.
The officers fled the scene immediately after the attack.
The police spokesman said wounded constable was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, but was sadly pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel.
According to him, the remains of the fallen officer have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue. Both Private Yahuza and Private Gabriel are now in police custody.
In response to the incident, Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has urged police personnel to remain calm, emphasizing the need for a discreet and professional investigation into the matter.
> “A team of experienced homicide detectives has been constituted to handle this case with the highest level of diligence,” the Commissioner assured.
“We are determined to get to the root of this senseless killing and ensure justice is served. The process will be thorough, transparent, and by the book.” He said.
The CP has also ordered an autopsy to be conducted on the deceased officer to aid in the investigation.
Expressing condolences to the family of the slain constable, CP Aliyu prayed for strength for the grieving relatives.
> “May his soul rest in peace. May Allah grant him Aljannatul Firdausi and give his family the strength to bear this tragic loss,” he said.
The police command has promised to keep the public updated as investigations progress.
