Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has described the death of elder statesman and Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark, as shocking and and filled with grief.
The governor, in a statement signed and made available to journalists in the State on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, described the deceased who died at 97 as an exceptional leader, a distinguished nationalist, an unwavering advocate for justice, and a pillar of wisdom whose immense contributions to Nigeria’s political and socio-economic development will never be forgotten.
Governor Mohammed, who is also the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, said that the nonagenarian was a symbol of integrity in public service whose steadfast commitment to the unity and progress of Nigeria inspired generations.
“The Government and people of Bauchi State received with deep shock and grief the news of the passing of Elder Statesman and revered Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark, who died at the age of 97.
“Governor Bala Mohammed on behalf of his family, the government, and the people of Bauchi State, extend his heartfelt condolences to the Clark family, the Ijaw Nation, and all Nigerians who mourn the loss of this exceptional leader.
“Chief Edwin Clark was a distinguished nationalist, an unwavering advocate for justice, and a pillar of wisdom whose immense contributions to Nigeria’s political and socio-economic development will never be forgotten.”
Gidado quoted the Governor as saying: “Throughout his life, Chief Clark remained a voice of reason, a defender of equity, and a symbol of integrity in public service. His steadfast commitment to the unity and progress of Nigeria inspired generations, and his legacy as an elder statesman will continue to guide us in the pursuit of national harmony and development.”
He said that Governor Mohammed urged members of his immediate family, friends, loved ones and all Nigerians who mourn his death to take solace in the fact that he lived a life of service, leaving behind a legacy of patriotism, courage, and leadership.
The Media Aide added that the Governor prayed that the Almighty would grant his soul eternal rest and give his family, the Ijaw people, and the entire nation the strength to bear the great loss.
