Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed
By AUSTIN TSENZUGHUL, Bauchi –
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has challenged stakeholders in child development to take decisive actions to end unacceptable cases of violence and intimidation against children.
The Governor made this call on the occasion of the 2025 National Children’s Day celebration held at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi.
Represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau, Governor Bala Mohammed emphasized that his administration is committed to protecting the rights and privileges of all children in the state.
He noted that the theme of this year’s celebration, “Stand up, speak up, building a bullying-free generation,” underscores the commitment of his administration towards creating awareness on the negative impact of bullying on individuals and communities.
“Abuse against children comes in so many forms which cause physical and emotional harm to the growth and development of the child,” the Governor said. “This ultimately leads to permanent psychological and emotional trauma on the child.”
Governor Bala Mohammed assured that the state government will continue to promote and protect the rights of every citizen, including children, as it is the primary responsibility of the government as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Child Rights Act, 2003.
The Governor directed the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development to work with other agencies to develop a program to combat cybercrime, child abuse, child abduction, child labor, and child trafficking.
In a welcome address, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Zainab Baban Takko, expressed gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed for his administration’s outstanding support towards the welfare and well-being of the citizens of the state, particularly women and children.
“While wishing all our children a very happy Children’s day celebration, I urge you to rededicate yourselves to being responsible citizens by respecting your parents, teachers, elders, and constituted authority,” Takko said. “You must shun all acts of violence, drug abuse, and other forms of social vices and continue to imbibe the spirit of hard work, honesty, patriotism, and patience at all times.”
The Governor’s call to action is a significant step towards creating a safe and nurturing environment for children in Bauchi State. As the state government works towards addressing cyberbullying and promoting responsible online behavior among youth, it is hoped that the efforts will yield positive results in the long run.
