Bauchi police set up panel to investigate civil unrest in Bogoro LGA

Rampaging youths burnt down the canopies, chairs and the stage for the memorial anniversary of Peter Gonto, prompting participants to scamper for safety.

The Bauchi State Police Command have set up a panel to investigate civil unrest in the Bogoro Local Government Area of ​​the state.

NATIONAL ACCORD had reported that the 21st memorial anniversary in honour of a late leader and crusader of the Sayawa people of Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro LGA of Bauchi State, Peter Gonto, on Friday turned violent as the venue of the event and some houses were destroyed and burnt down by rampaging women and youths.

A statement issued by the Command’s spokesman, SP Ahmed Wakil, however, said the command had established an investigative panel to unravel the circumstances surrounding the breakdown of law and order in the affected area.

The spokesperson reiterated the command’s commitment to fighting crime, while maintaining the principles of the rule of law.

He said additional developments will be communicated later.
