Buhari challenges IGP on Nigeria’s new position at INTERPOL

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Inspector General of Police Usman Baba to use Nigeria‘s new post at the International Criminal Police Organization, ICPO, popularly called INTERPOL, to more aggressively address the nation’s security challenges.

The president gave the charge when he received in audience the Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, who came to introduce him to the newly elected Vice President (Africa), and Member of the INTERPOL Executive Committee, Deputy Inspector General of Police, AIG Garba. Umar.

Mr. Buhari congratulated the Inspector General of Police, who was also at the event, for having one of his men represent all of Africa.

He said: “This is very good for our Police and I hope the IGP takes note, now that one of you represents all of Africa.

“It is something you should bring to the police, especially the officer corps, so they can do more to try to address our security challenges.”

The President also extended his congratulations to the new INTERPOL Vice President, urging him not to give up on his good record.

In his remarks, the Minister of Police Affairs said that AIG Umar had always distinguished himself in service in various capacities and that his election to the prestigious seat was well deserved.

Mr. Umar was elected to the post on November 25, 2021 at the 89th INTERPOL General Assembly in Istanbul, Turkey.
