A cross section of women police officers from Benue State Command
Benue State Police Command has joined police formations nationwide to mark a historic milestone—70 years since women first donned the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) uniform.
The celebration paid tribute to the resilience, sacrifices, and rising influence of women shaping modern policing in the country.
In a statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, explained that the three-day commemoration was carefully curated to honor trailblazers, spotlight the strides of today’s female officers, and encourage young women aspiring to careers in law enforcement.
Activities kicked off with an insightful lecture that revisited the journey of women in the NPF, spotlighting their evolving roles and the impact they have had on security architecture over the decades.
According to the PPRO, the event featured a symbolic 5-kilometre walk against gender-based violence, reinforcing the Force’s commitment to protecting vulnerable groups. Female officers also visited retired colleagues, celebrating their contributions and rekindling camaraderie. Another highlight was a heartwarming outreach to the Mama Abayol Orphanage, where officers spent time with the children and donated assorted gifts.
DSP Edet expressed satisfaction with the success of the celebrations, noting that all activities were carried out peacefully. She extended the Command’s appreciation to the national leadership of the Nigerian Police Force for supporting and recognizing the role of women in shaping a safer society.
