Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has strongly condemned the brutal murder of two travelers in Agan community, Makurdi, describing the act as “barbaric and unacceptable”.
Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime, and the governor has assured that they will face the full wrath of the law.
“The Governor is deeply saddened by the deaths of two men identified as indigenes of Kano state who were travelling through the state but were brutally attacked and murdered by criminals,” Alia said.
“Benue people are known for their hospitality and peaceful disposition.
“We cannot allow some criminal elements to tarnish our image and create a contrary image for our people.
“These criminals MUST be fished out immediately and made to face the full wrath of the law.”
The governor has directed the Commissioner of Police and other relevant security operatives to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and brought to justice.
“Already, five criminals have been swiftly apprehended in Makurdi by the police command in the state over this incident following the Governor’s earlier directives,” the statement read.
Alia extended his heartfelt condolences to Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano state and the families of the deceased.
He appealed for calm and assured the people of Kano State that justice will be served. “We are working closely towards ensuring that this incident doesn’t escalate into a security breach in any part of the country,” he added.
