Member representing Hawul LGA, Borno State, Hon. Mohammed Ibrahim Kwajaffa
By SADIQ ABUBAKAR, Maiduguri –
Hon. Mohammed Kwajaffa, representing Hawul Local Government Area at the Borno State House of Assembly, has dismissed the purported impeachment of Speaker Hon. Mohammed Bukar by nine aggrieved councillors as null and void.
The impeachment was allegedly due to gross misconduct accusations against Hon. Bukar, as stated in an endorsement letter signed by some councillors. However, in a surprising turn of events, Hon. Dahiru Inuwa Bwala has already taken over as the new Speaker.
But in a statement on Friday, the Lawmaker said, it is unfortunate that some councillors who are only interested for their personal gains, and not collective development of Hawul under the Executive Chairman, Hon. Hussaini Malgwi have resorted to blackmail and intimidation, which he noted, would not see the light of the day.
Kwajaffa expressed worry that if the Speaker had engaged in gross misconduct or misappropriation of any fund as claimed, all stakeholders including the Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC of Hawul, or the Chairman of the Council, among other leaders must have been officially or unofficially informed.
He noted that, it is disheartening that the so-called aggrieved Councillors have never informed any leaders or stakeholders of the great APC, instead, they shamefully issued an impeachment letter and shared it on some Social Media platforms to cause confusion and disabuse the minds of the public.
His words: “At the time when the state government under the leadership of Governor Babagana Zulum and the local authorities are working hard to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroots, some disgruntled elements within the political spectrum of Hawul are attempting to use the councillors to create confusion even where there is no problem.
“Those fifth columnist who always think that they know it better than everyone had gone out of patience after waiting for a year and yet there’s no sign of problems in Hawul Local Government.
“The honorable Chairman of Hawul LGA, Hussaini Malgwi is at peace with his councillors, my humble self, and the entire stakeholders of the local government.
” Interestingly, those bad elements among the councillors have already tendered an apology and pledged their unflinching loyalty to the political leadership of the local government and Borno state as a whole”. Kwajaffa stated.
