Uche Chukwu, a young male nail technician, proudly earns between N96,000 and N120,000 monthly by providing manicure and pedicure services to women, defying traditional gender roles in the beauty industry.
In an exclusive interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday, Chukwu expressed his unapologetic enthusiasm for his craft.
“I love this work, and I see nothing wrong with a man doing it. It supports my livelihood, and that’s what matters,” he stated. He revealed that his daily earnings range from N4,000 to N5,000, driven by his passion and commitment to financial independence.
Chukwu’s services extend beyond nails to include fixing lashes, shaping eyebrows, and styling dreadlocks. “This job allows me to address personal needs and sustain my dreams,” he shared, noting that his work as a nail technician funds his aspirations as a musical artist.
He also called on the government and philanthropists to support young entrepreneurs with financial aid to nurture their business ambitions.
“If I could get assistance, it would mean a lot. Many youths have dreams but lack the resources to pursue them. Support could steer us away from crime,” Chukwu urged.
Encouraging his peers, he advised, “Chase what you’re passionate about, regardless of what people say. Stay focused and keep moving forward.”
Chukwu’s clients admire his dedication. Blessing Moses, a regular customer, praised his professionalism, saying, “He’s earning an honest living, which is far better than crime.”
Another client, Mercy Ekpe, added, “I support him to encourage his focus and determination.” Similarly, Patricia Ene lauded his boldness, noting, “He’s proving that hard work knows no gender. His courage is inspiring.” (NAN)
