Kaduna State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has commended Uba Sani for what it described as responsive leadership and fulfilment of promises since assuming office.
Chairman of the association in the state, Rev. Caleb Ma’aji, gave the commendation on Wednesday when the governor hosted Christian leaders to the breaking of the Ramadan fast at the Government House in Kaduna.
Ma’aji recalled that during a similar gathering last year, CAN had appealed to the governor to restore government sponsorship of Christian pilgrimage to Jerusalem, which had been suspended in 2015.
According to him, the governor promised to investigate the circumstances surrounding the suspension before taking a decision on the request.
“This year, 49 people have gone to Jerusalem and are back. The last person in the contingent could not travel because of a mix-up in his name, but he will soon depart for Jerusalem,” he said.
The CAN chairman also noted that the association had earlier appealed to the governor for the construction of some key roads, including the PAN Drive–Television Garage–Sabon Tasha road, Samrada–Romi–Karatudu Gonin Gora road and the Nasarawa–UNTL–Zenith Bank Kakuri road.
“As I am speaking now, the roads are being constructed to the highest standard, with asphalt and proper drainage,” Ma’aji said.
He assured the governor of continued prayers from the Christian community, asking God to grant him wisdom, grace and strength to steer the affairs of the state.
“We will continue to pray that God guides him as he leads Kaduna State to greater heights. We believe he will leave the state better than he met it,” he added.
Also speaking, Bishop Joseph Yari, a former chairman of the Kaduna State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, commended the governor for restoring pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
Yari, who was among the pilgrims, said members of the Kaduna contingent offered prayers for peace and stability in both Nigeria and Kaduna State during their visit to the Holy Land.
Responding, Governor Sani said the decision to restore government sponsorship of Christian pilgrimage was in line with his administration’s commitment to justice, fairness and inclusiveness.
He pledged to restore Kaduna State to its former reputation as a place where people of different ethnic and religious backgrounds live peacefully and pursue their livelihoods in harmony.
The governor also noted that he regularly hosts Iftar with religious leaders and other stakeholders during Ramadan to receive feedback on government policies and programmes.
He described this year’s gathering as significant, noting that it coincided with the period when Muslims are observing Ramadan while Christians are marking the Lenten season.
Sani urged religious leaders to continue supporting his administration and that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in delivering democratic dividends and promoting sustainable development across the country.
