COCSON denies mass defection of APC members in Buhari’s Senatorial Zone

The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in Nigeria (COCSON) has debunked media reports that over 19,500 registered members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) have decamped to the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State.

Recalled That on Saturday, the media space was awash with the news of mass defection of APC members in President Muhammadu Buhari’s Katsina North Senatorial zone.

Reacting to the report in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the Secretary General of COCSON, Alhaji Tijani Ali Danjuma, described the report as fake and baseless.

Alhaji Danjuma said: “The claim by The Katsina PDP chairman, Mr. Salisu Majigiri, that over 19,500 defectors had become weary of what was happening in the APC, and decided to change their nest is laughable and a blatant lie.

He rather noted that opposition party is interested in engaging in smear campaign and using monetary inducement to target its members in the state.

He added the ruling APC under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari remain committed in providing more dividends of democracy in Katsina State and by extension tackling the insecurity, economic hardship and related challenges bedevilling the state.

Alhaji Danjuma however maintained that Katsina State Governorship aspirant, Dr. Dikko Umar Radda is loved by Katsina indigenes and they will surely elect him in 2023, considering his impeccable character.

He further urged party’s members to remain focused, steadfast and not to be distracted by the opposition party’s propaganda in the media as the APC prepares for its political campaigns in the state.
