Nigeria’s Ezekiel Nathaniel delivered a brilliant performance to win the men’s 400m hurdles gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
The 23-year-old crossed the finish line in 48.47 seconds to become the first Nigerian to win gold in the event at the Commonwealth Games.
England’s Jake Minshull finished second to take silver, while Jamaica’s Assinie Wilson claimed the bronze medal.
Nathaniel’s victory also surpassed the achievement of Kingsley Agbabokha, who won silver for Nigeria in the event at the 1996 Commonwealth Games.
Nigeria celebrated another athletics medal after Udodi Onwuzurike secured silver in the men’s 200m final with a season-best time of 20.09 seconds.
South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile won the gold medal in 19.96 seconds, while Jamaica’s Christopher Taylor settled for bronze in 20.11 seconds.
Onwuzurike produced a strong finish to hold off Taylor and secure Nigeria’s second athletics medal of the day.
The two podium finishes further boosted Nigeria’s medal tally at the 2026 Commonwealth Games and highlighted the country’s growing success on the track.
