Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu
By PATRICK ABANG, Calabar –
Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has approved N70,000 as new minimum wage for workers in the state.
The governor, who made the announcement after a closed door meeting with labour leaders in the state on Sunday evening, said the new minimum wage comes with consequential adjustments.
He reiterated the fact that the workers in the state are the fulcrum of governance, hence, their welfare remains his top priority.
It would be recalled the State workers had been on two days warning strike and another one day strike on Monday.
As at press time, the Organized Labour Union kept sealed lips whether to call the strike off or continue the Strike despite the state government offers.
The state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Gregory Olayi, was allegedly saying the congress will meet by 2pm Monday to take a final decision.
The state Governor added that he shall continue to work with labour unions in the state alongside other stakeholders to build a better Cross River State.
