Defense Minister leads service chiefs to theater command over recent attacks by Boko Haram

The Minister of Defense, Major General Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd), has directed all sector commanders of Operation Lafiya Dole (OPLD) to tender their requests on paper to enable him study them with a view to proferring a plan on how to strategically address all the challenges confronting the troops on the battle field.

Maj. Gen. Magashi disclosed this on Sunday in Maiduguiri during a one day operational visit to the Military Command and Control Center(MCCC), following the recent attacks by Boko Haram insurgents on some military formations in both sector 1 and 2 Commands of OPLD and the Lake Chad Basin region

The Minister was accomplained by The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor and other Service Chiefs; The COAS, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, CAS, Air Marshal Isiaka, and CNS Admiral Awwal Gambo to Operational Lafiya Dole Theater Command Headquarters, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.

While addressing the troops, Gen. Magashi (rtd) commended them in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents in North East, noting that President Muhammadu Buhari appreciated their performance so far.

“The job you have been doing is highly appreciated by our Commander in Chief of the Armed forces, President Muhammadu Buhari and he said we should come here and talk to you to continue with the effort”.

“You are doing you best and we recognize that. You have already been baptized, all you need to do is to find the enemy and bring him to his knees. We have the resources, the equipments to improve your standard and training to be able to do this good job”.Magashi said.

He assured them of their welfare, healthcare and salaries, while promising them that more sophisticated equipment would soon be provided alongside in-house training to make them more professionals in their various fields of endeavors and motivated to finish the National assignment given to them by the presidency.

The minister also stopped over at the Maimalari Cantonment Hospital and Medical Center of 7 Division Nigerian Army to sympathize with the wounded and sick troops.

He further assured the injured soldiers of adequate medical care, while noting that the sacrifices of those who lost their lives would not be in vain as efforts are being made by the Federal Government to address all issues.
While addressing the press, The Defense Minister, appealed to the journalists to be objective and balanced in their reportage by being patriotic as National stakeholder in reporting the military operations in the North East.

Earlier, the Theater Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Major Gen. Umar Farouq Yahaya in his welcome address told the minister that the CDS had since 31st January 2021 visited the theater command twice on operational visit, COAS visited twice and also went round the sector commands of the theater command in a week.

While the CAS visited separately once on operational visit like the CNS who send a naval team to the Lake Chad Basin to assess the situation on ground and advise the higher authority on the necessary equipment needed by the military in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents.

He appreciated their visit which was an indication of their great concern and care for the theater command and its operations while assuring continuous professional pursue of the constitutional mandatory of the military in protecting and safeguarding the territorial integrity of the country.
