The Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege on Thursday declared his intention to run for the office of Governor of Delta State under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Senator Omo-Agege declared his interest at a rally held at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

Omo-Agege’s ambition would pit him against the incumbent PPD leadership that has governed the state since 1999, if he secures his party’s ticket. The DSP has also been described as the strongest opponent to the party’s leadership in the state currently.

Speaking to a massive crowd of supporters, the Deputy Senate President, who is the Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial district, reeled out development strides recorded under his legislative stewardship as he also said his decision was a result of the desire to bring development to other parts of the state that had been marginalised by the incumbent leadership in the state.

A popular chorus throughout his speech was “enough is enough”, stirring wild vocal approval from the crowd.

Omo-Agege is the only aspirant to have publicly declared his interest for the ticket of the APC in the upcoming Governorship race so far, but it is possible that other contestants may step into the race in the coming weeks.

While the race is still considered open by observers, the DSP has continued to consult with stakeholders across the state for support and is believed to have made important alliances towards his ambition.
