Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket after defeating Mozambique 60-55 in their final Group D match.
The win, which took place at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, marks a significant milestone for the team as they continue their quest for a fourth consecutive Women’s AfroBasket title.
The game was a nail-biter, with Mozambique pushing D’Tigress to their limits. Despite trailing 9-13 at the end of the first quarter and 24-28 at halftime, the reigning champions showed remarkable composure and quality in the second half.
Star guard Ezinne Kalu, the 2019 MVP, was instrumental in Nigeria’s victory, scoring 16 points and five steals to lead her team to victory .
