The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has emerged as the choiced-candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the September gubernatorial election in Edo State.
PREMIUM TIMES reports that the announced came after ratification by party delegates following the withdrawal of his main rival, Kenneth Imasuagbon.
As it stands, Obaseki will now contest against his main rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at the September gubernatorial election.
At least seven other parties have concluded their primaries and selected candidates for the governorship election, according to the electoral commission, INEC.
The PDP primary was supervised by the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and his Zamfara and Oyo counterparts, Bello Mattawalle and Seyi Makinde.
Obaseki, who in 2016 flagged and won the Edo State governorship election under the platform of APC, lately defected to the PDP following his disqualification from APC’s primary over certificate authenticity.
However, the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) saw in him the virtue of a candidate and granted him waiver to contest the party’s governorship primary.
