National Coordinator of the Presidential School Debate Nigeria, Elder Dare Oritu has called on the Federal and State Governments to make school debate a matter of priority and to step up efforts aimed at encouraging students to participate in the exercise.

Oritu made the appeal in a press statement issued at the end of the  2023 International Debate Championship held in Malaysia, Asia, where  the Nigerian Debate Team emerged as the champions.

Team Anambra, which represented Nigeria in the international competition, won the 2023 international debate championship after competing with several schools in the debate as the Best.

Elder Dare, while  rejoicing with the team for making Nigeria proud in a foreign land, also called on both governments at the federal state, and local government levels to support this program not only as a matter of urgency but to make school debate a priority at all levels of learning.

The programme,  which was initiated in 2001 to unite Nigerian youngsters and give them a spirit of oneness and togetherness, has been into peace advocacy enabling them to interact with each other across the states building relationships, and confidence among themselves for a greater tomorrow.

Elder Dare, who was accompanied by the Commissioner of Education in Anambra state, Prof. Ngozi China-Udeh and the Chairman PPSSC, Prof. Mkechi Ikediugwu, among others, said the next Championship would be in Singapore with Team Army, who are the champions of the 2023 Presidential School Debate Nigeria.
