The Federal Government of Nigeria has reconstituted the governing councils and boards of 111 federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
President Bola Tinubu approved the reconstitution of the governing councils and boards to ensure the effective management of Nigerian tertiary institutions.
It would be recalled that the list was initially rejected by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other stakeholders due to allegations of lopsidedness.
The updated list of members of the reconstituted governing councils was released by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the governing councils and boards of federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education for the effective management of Nigerian tertiary institutions across the country,” the statement said .
The list includes notable individuals such as:
– Chief Bisi Akande, appointed as the chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Ibadan (UI), Oyo State
– Wole Olanipekun, appointed to head the council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG)
– Isa Yuguda, appointed to chair the governing council of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN)
– Yayale Ahmed, appointed to lead the council of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Kaduna State
– Senator Joy Emordi, appointed to chair the council of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri, Imo State
The list consists of five names each for 51 universities, 35 polytechnics, and 22 colleges of education.
