Former Secretary to the Benue State Government, Professor David Salifu has hailed Governor Hyacinth Alia for the establishment of the Benue Public Service Institute.
Professor Salifu spoke with NATIONAL ACCORD in Makurdi after delivering a paper during the training workshop/ induction of the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries organised by the Institute.
The former SSG, who appreciated the foresight of the Governor expressed confidence that the Institute would train the civil and public servants among others and with adequate training the civil and public servants would be equipped to carry out their official duties.
Salifu, who also lauded the management team of the Institute for their competence, said they have continued to display competence in all they do, insisting that the training of newly appointed of Permanent Secretaries in the state would provide them with enough skills and knowledge to work in their various offices.
He opined that political appointees like the commissioners should be trained along side with the Permanent Secretaries to enable them get acquainted with their roles to avoid conflict during their various assignments.
Professor Salifu described the training workshop/ induction for newly appointed Permanent Secretaries as timely, expressing the belief that the training would equip them when they are eventually sworn in.
While expressing confidence in the Professor Tarnande led Institute, Salifu noted that an insight into the programmes outlined would certainly move the civil and public servants from the state of obscurity even as other states of the federation would also benefit from the Institute which the Governor intends to make it second to none.
Professor Salifu who left office as the SSG nine years ago and now the Head of Department of Public Administration, Federal University Wukari presented his paper on the Relationship between Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries.
