FRSC official at the scene of an accident
A fatal accident in front of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, has claimed the lives of eight people on Wednesday night, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State.
The State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, confirmed the tragic incident in a statement issued in Akure.
He explained that the crash involved a truck carrying cement and a motorcycle. The victims included five men, two women, and a young boy.
According to Ibitoye, the accident occurred when the truck driver, in an attempt to avoid colliding with a motorcycle, swerved off the road and hit a barricade in front of the university gate. The truck then lost control, resulting in the fatal crash.
“Eight people were killed on the spot while their remains have been taken to a hospital morgue in the town,” he said.
The sector commander used the opportunity to urge motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules and road safety regulations, emphasizing that such tragedies are preventable when drivers exercise caution and discipline on the road.
