Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia
Determined to ensure the commencement of construction work on the flyover at Wurukum, Makurrdi, the Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has approved the payment of compensations for affected structures on the Right of Way (RoW).
Already the Minister of Works in February 2024 gave an approval for the construction/dualisation of the Lafia-Makurdi-Ninth Mile Road and in accordance with Governor’s magnanimity and love for infrastructural development, he appealed to the Federal Government to include a flyover at the Wurukum Roundabout which was approved by the federal government.
A statement by the Principal Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Strategic Communication, Bridget Tikyaa said Engr Mlumun Ikpaahindi, Technical Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, confirmed the approval on Friday in Makurdi after the evaluation of structures marked for compensation.
“The release of funds for the RoW paves the way for the construction of the flyover to begin.
“The governor has passion for the state’s progress and development; we commend him for this too,” she said noting that the 600-metre flyover will begin immediately after the River Benue Bridge and end close to the Atorough Tyough Plaza, revealing that arrangements and agreements of signed and approved documents for compensations have been concluded, as all parties were satisfied.
The Technical Adviser appealed to motorists to exercise patience during all activities on the route, as traffic may be slow, but assured them that alternative routes may be designated.
According to her the first priority of the contractor is to create diversions open to traffic while the construction would be ongoing to avoid traffic congestion during the construction.
“I have also told the contractors that the media should be involved before and during construction via radio and social media to keep people updated on these developments so they are aware beforehand.”
Those involved in the construction include the Federal Ministry of Work, the State Ministry of Works and the Benue State Urban Development Board.
Others include China Harbour Engineering Company – Contractor, E. A. Iordaa (independent estate valuers) and the Technical Adviser Infrastructure (Governor’s representative)
