Bauchi State Police Command has successfully foiled a bandit attack in the Gwana District of Yankari Game Reserve, rescuing two kidnapped victims and neutralizing a suspected bandit during an intense firefight.
The operation, marked by swift action and bravery, also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle.
Command Spokesman CSP Ahmed Wakil confirmed the incident to journalists on Saturday, August 9, 2025, in Bauchi.
He revealed that the attack occurred around 2:30 a.m. on August 8, when armed bandits stormed Kataraje village near Kalgo and Alkaleri, abducting Ango Mallam Idi, 60, and Musa Alhaji Shumo, 35. “Two other villagers, Rabiu Alhaji Sale, 50, and Alhaji Sale Akko, 45, sustained injuries during the assault,” Wakil stated.
He added, “Thanks to timely intelligence from vigilant residents, our joint operation team quickly mobilized, provided medical aid to the injured, and pursued the attackers.”
The pursuit culminated in a fierce gun battle, during which one bandit was killed, and the two hostages were safely rescued and reunited with their families.
“The hostages emerged unharmed, and our operatives demonstrated remarkable courage,” Wakil noted.
Commissioner of Police CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu commended the team’s professionalism, with Wakil relaying, “The Commissioner praises the operatives for their bravery and reaffirms our commitment to protecting lives and dismantling criminal networks across Bauchi State.”
Wakil also urged residents to remain proactive, saying, “We encourage the public to continue providing timely and reliable information to support our security efforts.”
