In a strategic move to revamp the state’s security framework, Plateau State Governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang has distributed approximately 100 brand new motorcycles, along with sets of raincoats and rain boots, to various security agencies for improved service delivery.
Governor Mutfwang emphasized that this initiative aims to bolster the security of Plateau State and provide protection for farmers, thereby enhancing agricultural productivity in the state.
During the handover ceremony held at the Old Government House in Rayfield on Thursday, Mutfwang announced that this marks the first phase of the initiative, with an initial focus on areas facing security threats, particularly in the Central and Northern zones.

He stated “In the last two months, we have witnessed significant strides in our efforts to identify the hideouts and entry points of criminals into Plateau State. For this reason, we have made considerable investments, particularly in technology. We will soon unveil a technological center that will allow us to monitor every nook and cranny of Plateau State with sufficient capacity.”.
“By the grace of God, what we are preparing aims to equip ground response. As you know, the terrain in certain areas is such that vehicles cannot access them, and even ordinary motorcycles struggle to navigate these locations.”
According to the governor, in collaboration with security agencies, the first batch of motorcycles has been procured to assist with surveillance operations. He underscored the importance of ensuring that security forces provide protection to farmers during their activities.
“The distribution we have made is significant. Let me clarify that we have authorized our chief security officer to seize any of these motorcycles found within town limits, as they are intended for use in rural areas, not for personal use,” he added.
Also, the Secretary to the Government of Plateau State, Arch. Samuel Jatau, noted that the motorcycles will be allocated among various security agencies, with 30 motorcycles going to the military, alongside 130 raincoats and 130 rain boots. Specific allocations include: 5 motorcycles, 130 rain boots, and 130 raincoats for the Nigerian Police Force; 30 motorcycles, 60 raincoats, and 60 rain boots for the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC); 5 motorcycles, 20 raincoats, and 20 rain boots for the Department of State Security Service (DSS); and 5 motorcycles, 50 raincoats, and 50 rain boots for Operation Rainbow. The Immigration Service will receive 3 motorcycles, along with 20 rain boots and 20 raincoats.
Additionally, the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) will receive 10 raincoats and 10 rain boots, while the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) will get 20 rain boots and 20 raincoats. The Correctional Services will receive 10 rain boots and 10 raincoats, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) will receive 9 motorcycles, 20 raincoats, and 20 rain boots each for the Mangu and Bokkos LGAs.
Speaking on behalf of the security agencies, Commandant Alexander Barunde of the NSCDC Plateau State Command expressed gratitude to Governor Mutfwang for his thoughtful gesture aimed at protecting the lives and properties of Plateau citizens.
He assured that the existing cooperation and synergy among the security agencies in the state are strong and will continue to improve. “In view of this, with the provision of these motorcycles, we will enhance our efforts in ensuring the safety of farmers, allowing them to go to their farms and return home safely, while enabling citizens to sleep peacefully at night,” Barunde pledged.
