By UKA DANIEL, Abakaliki –
Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru has passed an order for the completion of the long-abandoned tallest building in the state, Ebonyi International Trade Centre, located at Presco Junction, Abakaliki, after passing an integrity test.
According to the Hon Commissioner for Information of the state, Mr Jude Okpor, “Ebonyi Trade Centre, Presco Junction, passes integrity test. Consequently, the State Executive Council led by His Excellency Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has approved the immediate reconstruction and completion of the project.”
The Executive Council meeting held at the EXCO Chambers, Abakaliki, on May 16, 2025, has confirmed the Trade Centre fit for reconstruction and completion to enhance and advance the economic buoyancy of the state as part of the vision of the Governor which is enshrined in his People’s Charter of Needs manifesto.

It would be recalled that the Executive Council in their meeting on 17th March 2025 had resolved and placed the said project on an integrity test as to ascertain the strength of the building and its foundation from which to determine whether to revisit the building for completion or not.
The project was initiated by the first civilian governor of the state, Senator Sam Ominyi Egwu in 2003 to incubate an economic-friendly environment for Ebonyians but was later abandoned on the reason of faulty foundation.
