Obidient Movement unveiled its ambitious “A New Nigeria is POssible – Secure Your PVC, Embrace MERD” initiative on Thursday, aimed at galvanizing Nigerians for the 2027 general elections.
The campaign, themed around “Get Organised – Make Election Rigging Difficult (MERD),” seeks to empower citizens and safeguard the democratic process.
The movement’s National Coordinator, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, alongside other leaders, introduced the campaign at a press briefing in Abuja, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Yunusa emphasized the goal of ensuring every eligible Nigerian possesses a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) to strengthen electoral integrity.
“Our mission is clear: boost civic participation nationwide,” Yunusa stated. “In every polling unit, Obidients will lead or join voting blocs of at least 100 people, targeting 100% PVC ownership. We’ll go door-to-door, assist with voter registration, and recruit 1,500 principled leaders to contest elections under our platform.”
Yunusa added that the movement plans to mobilize massive voter turnout, deploy one million trained vote protectors, and leverage technology for real-time election monitoring.
“We’re committed to making rigging a costly endeavor for those who undermine the people’s will,” he declared.
The campaign envisions a transformed Nigeria with affordable food, secure communities, functional healthcare, and quality education that prepares youth for the future. It also aims for thriving rural economies, equal opportunities for women, harassment-free business environments, and a nation where the diaspora can return with pride.
“For our children, we’re building a Nigeria where patriotism is a source of joy, not a burden,” Yunusa said. He urged all Nigerians to join the movement, mobilize their communities, and volunteer as vote protectors.
“Attend rallies, town halls, and spread the word—your vote is your power,” he added.
