Group faults call for removal of Wike as FCT Minister

A group, Niger Delta Peace and Development Advocates(NDPDA), has faulted calls for the removal of Mr Nyesom Wike as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Mr Kelvin Ebi-Thomas, the President, NDPDA, said this when he spoke with newsmen in Yenagoa on Thursday.

Ebi-Thomas said that the call was unnecessary, as Wike had added much value to the FCT’s administration within his short stay in office.

‘’Those calling for the removal of the Minister are those who do not want the development of FCT.

‘’Even as a governor, Wike proved to be a development oriented leader who would at all times put the interest of the people ahead of personal gains,’’ he said.

He said that the call for his removal was not a surprise, given Wike’s uncompromising stance on development.

‘’It is expected that corruption will fight back when there are reforms that upset the status quo such as those initiated by the FCT Minister,’’ he said.

Ebi-Thomas said as a former governor of Rivers, Wike had remained focused in his task of developing the FCT in spite of certain developments in his home state.

He urged President Bola Tinubu to ignore the calls for Wike’s removal, saying that Nigerians would be proud of his achievements at the end of his tenure as FCT minister.

A group called Abuja indigenes had on Wednesday staged a protest calling for the removal of Wike as FCT Minister, saying that the position was for the FCT indigenes.(NAN)
