The Humanitarian Aid to Secure the Future Initiative (HASFI) recently hosted the grand finale of its Best Brains Quiz and Spelling Competition at the Federal Government College Maiduguri Assembly Hall.
The event brought together over 250 students from 20 public and private senior and junior secondary schools in Maiduguri.
In her remarks, Executive Director of HASFI, Binta Lawan, emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in developing educational and peacebuilding programs for youths in the state and region.

She noted that the quiz and spelling competitions aimed to promote academic excellence, healthy competition, and intellectual development among pupils and students.
Mrs. Binta said the competition was also designed to strengthen youths’ initiatives for reintegration and sustainable peace projects in Borno State, the North East, and Nigeria at large.
According to her, the event was targeted towards achieving peaceful coexistence, developing children, and establishing sustainable growth and development among youths.

“HASFI was established in 2018 as Securing the Future Initiative Borno and has since evolved to become Humanitarian Aid to Secure the Future Initiative in 2024.
“We are passionate about securing the future of children, widows, orphans, and less privileged women and youths. Our thematic areas include education, empowerment, WASH, climate action, and protection.
“The Best Brains Quiz and Spelling Competition is one of our flagship projects under education, aimed at promoting academic excellence, healthy competition, and intellectual development among pupils and students,” Binta said.

The Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) of HASFI, Alhaji Modu Kolo Dunoma, urged the children to dedicate themselves to their studies and develop their brains and educational capacity.
He acknowledged the dedication of teachers, mentors, and supportive parents who guided and encouraged the participants.

Executive Director of Peace Ambassadors for Youths Empowerment, Ambassador Ahmed Shehu, commended the organizers and appealed to partners and stakeholders to support HASFI’s activities. He pledged continuous contribution and support to the organization, advising the children to read their books always.
Awards and prizes were presented to participating students and schools, with dignitaries from various organizations, media outlets, and educational institutions in attendance.

Some of the schools that participated in the competition include: FGC Maiduguri, GGSS Yetwa, Golden Academy , Al- Iman Bin Ahmed Academy. Destiny International School., Mairi Islamic School, Government Girls Day Secondary Sec. School Zajiri , Federal Government Girls College Monguno and Federal Government College Maiduguri.

Others are Kashim Shetima Govt. Day Secondary School. Mairi, Shehu Sanda kyarimi Govt. Day Secondary. School., Yan’uwa Private School , Golden Olives Academy., Future Hope Private School , Sultan Mubarak International School, Brilliant Future School, Abande Memorial School Maiduguri International School and Lawan Bukar Adnan Islamic School.
While the rest include Liberty School, Maitasa Academy, Saffron Academy, Kings Private School, Shallara private School., Govt Sec. School Mafoni, Al-Burhan Islamic School, Liya Academy, Guwori Islamic Academy and Husna Integrated School.
