Bayelsa State Governor, Diri Douye
A pressure group, the Concerned Bayelsa Stakeholders Forum (CBSF), has called on Governor Douye Diri to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Wisdom Ikuli, the group’s convener and Governor Diri’s Technical Adviser on Print Media, “Bayelsa must urgently align with the APC to benefit from the federal government and ensure the state’s progress.”
Ikuli argued that the Ijaw people have been marginalized due to lack of alignment with the ruling party, despite contributing over 65% of Nigeria’s oil wealth.
He noted that President Bola Tinubu has shown commitment to the South and appointed several Ijaw sons and daughters into key positions.
Ikuli said, “The President has approved key projects for Bayelsa, and it’s time for the governor to show solidarity by joining the APC.”
The CBSF plans to begin daily street rallies in Yenagoa to urge Governor Diri to consider defection to the APC.
Ikuli insisted that the governor’s defection is in Bayelsa’s best interest and should be considered non-negotiable.
