Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, with education taking the largest share of the N985.9 billion budget, accounting for 25 per cent of the total allocation.
Speaking at the Council Chambers of Sir Kashim Ibrahim House on Monday, the governor said the budget was designed to consolidate the gains recorded by his administration while laying stronger foundations for sustainable and inclusive growth.
According to him, N698.9 billion, representing 70.9 per cent of the budget, has been earmarked for capital expenditure, targeted at infrastructure development, economic expansion and improved service delivery across the state. Recurrent expenditure, he added, stands at N287 billion, or 29.1 per cent, to ensure the efficient functioning of essential government services.
Giving a sectoral breakdown, Governor Uba Sani said education received 25 per cent of the budget because of the administration’s belief that knowledge remains the most effective tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and securing the future of children in the state.
Infrastructure and rural transformation also received 25 per cent of the allocation, reflecting the government’s determination to open up rural communities, connect markets and stimulate economic activities. The health sector was allocated 15 per cent, underscoring the administration’s conviction that a healthy population is central to productivity and human dignity.
Agriculture and food security were allocated 11.65 per cent of the budget, as part of efforts to enhance food production, empower farmers and strengthen the local economy.
The governor added that deliberate provisions were also made for climate change initiatives, nutrition and environmental sustainability, in recognition of current realities and the responsibility to future generations.
Tagged “Budget of Consolidation of Transformation for Inclusive Development,” Uba Sani said the 2026 budget is anchored on correcting long-standing developmental imbalances and exclusion.
He disclosed that N100 million has been allocated to each ward in the state for community-driven projects, noting that the initiative would empower residents to identify their priorities and drive development from the grassroots.
“This is governance that listens, governance that includes and governance that delivers,” the governor said.
Uba Sani also stressed his administration’s commitment to fiscal discipline and prudent financial management, revealing that the 2026 budget introduces no new loans and that N114.9 billion has already been expended on debt servicing.
According to him, the budget represents more than figures and projections, as it promises progress, opportunity and an improved quality of life for citizens of the state.
The governor, however, noted that the success of the budget would depend on effective implementation and sustained collaboration with the Kaduna State House of Assembly, assuring of a cordial and productive relationship with the legislature.
“Together, we have positioned Kaduna as a bastion of peace and tranquillity, and together we will sustain this stability as the foundation of development. By working together, we will consolidate transformation, deepen inclusion and build a Kaduna State that truly works for all,” he said.
