England’s Harry Kane notched his second hat-trick of the Bundesliga season, propelling Bayern Munich to a commanding 4-1 victory over Hoffenheim on Saturday.
In a separate milestone, Hamburg celebrated their first top-division win in over seven years.
Fresh off earning man-of-the-match honors with a brace in Bayern’s midweek 3-1 Champions League triumph against Chelsea, the Bayern skipper maintained his red-hot streak despite a lineup shake-up from manager Vincent Kompany. The coach introduced five alterations, notably giving a debut start to Nicolas Jackson, the forward on loan from Chelsea.
Bayern struggled for fluency in the opening exchanges, with Hoffenheim carving out the sharper opportunities. Yet Kane broke the deadlock just before the interval, rifling home from a cleverly worked corner routine.
Hoffenheim’s dreams of a shock result evaporated moments into the second half when Kane slotted away a controversial penalty, awarded after a handball call in the box. He doubled down from the spot again in the 77th minute, following a VAR intervention that spotted a foul on teammate Michael Olise.
The visitors pulled one back late through Vladimir Coufal, whose curling free-kick took a wicked deflection into the net. But ex-Hoffenheim star Serge Gnabry put the seal on proceedings with a clinical finish in added time, extending Bayern’s flawless run to seven wins across all competitions this campaign.
Kane’s haul pushes his season tally to 13 goals—eight from just four league outings. Since his 2023 arrival at Bayern, he’s racked up 98 strikes in 103 appearances, this marking his ninth club hat-trick.
Reflecting post-match on DAZN, Kane quipped: “They nicknamed me ‘Hat-trick Harry’ back in school days—that one’s lingered from my youth.”
The 31-year-old remains unflappable from 12 yards, converting all 17 of his Bundesliga penalties. “It’s tougher than it looks,” he admitted. “I put in the hours—drills every day. Truth is, any chance in the area, penalty or otherwise, I trust my shot to find the back of the net.”
Meanwhile, newly promoted Hamburg shattered a barren spell by edging Heidenheim 2-1, their first Bundesliga victory in 2,688 days—roughly seven years and four months. Scoreless in their prior three outings upon returning to the elite level this summer, the hosts sparked to life when Luka Vuskovic poked home a loose ball from a set-piece rebound right before halftime.
With 30 minutes left, Arsenal loanee Fabio Vieira teed up Rayan Philippe for a composed finish to make it 2-0. Heidenheim clawed back via Adam Koelle’s stoppage-time strike, igniting a frantic finale, but Hamburg’s defense stood firm.
In other action, Freiburg dismantled Werder Bremen 3-0 on the road, while 10-man Mainz stormed to a 4-1 rout at Augsburg after an early second-half red card to Dominik Kohr. RB Leipzig face promoted Cologne later Saturday.
