Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch has fiercely criticized the UK government’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine, calling it “absolutely disastrous” and warning that Britain will come to regret it.
In a passionate statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Badenoch argued that the move would have serious consequences.
“This is disastrous. Absolutely disastrous. We will all rue the day this decision was made. Rewarding terrorism with no conditions for Hamas is irresponsible,” she declared.
Badenoch also pointed out that the recognition does nothing to alleviate the suffering of innocent civilians in Gaza.
“It leaves hostages languishing in Gaza and does nothing to stop the suffering of innocent people caught in this war,” she added.
The opposition leader accused the Labour-led government of sidestepping critical issues facing Britain.
“It’s because Labour cannot fix the big problems in our society that they focus on discredited student union campaigns to appease the hard left,” she said.
She also criticized the government’s handling of domestic issues, stating, “They cannot fix the NHS, so they push assisted suicide. They cannot create jobs for young people, so they give them votes at 16. They cannot sort out immigration, but they will recognize Palestine instead.”
Badenoch didn’t hold back in her criticism of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, accusing him of lacking a clear vision for the country.
“This is the same man who paid £35bn in reparations to Mauritius and surrendered the Chagos Islands. Everything we are seeing is the result of a Prime Minister with no plan and no judgment.”
She concluded by claiming that Starmer would spend the next four years appeasing the Labour left, “delivering hobby horses” to stay in power, leaving a “huge mess” for future leadership to clean up.
