Governor Mala Buni of Yobe State
Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has ordered the immediate shutdown of all boarding secondary schools across the state, citing the need to protect students amid rising wave of kidnapping snd other security concerns.
Governor Buni gave the directive in a statement released in Damaturu on Saturday by the governor’s Director-General of Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed,
According to him, the decision followed a high-level security meeting convened by the governor with heads of security agencies.
Mohammed explained that the move became necessary after authorities reviewed “recent breach of security at some schools in some states of the federation.”
He noted that the state government is taking no chances with the safety of schoolchildren.
Governor Buni, he added, urged residents to remain vigilant and intensify prayers for leaders, security agencies, and for lasting peace across Yobe and the country.
Also speaking on the development, Dr. Bukar Aji-Bukar, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, said the closure is a temporary precaution and would remain in effect “pending improvement of the situation.”
He said principals of all affected schools have been ordered to comply fully with the government’s directive.
