Zamfara State Anti-Thuggery Committee has arrested a 70-year-old man for allegedly raping a girl-child aged 13 years.

Parading the man alongside other suspects on Friday, the chairman of the committee, Bello Bakyasuwa, said the suspected rapist, who has four wives and 20 children, confessed to twice having carnal knowledge of the teenage girl.

Mr Bakyasuwa said the man was arrested by operatives of the committee as he attempted to rape the child for the third time, along Yan mangwarori area in Gusau town.

“The rapist was arrested following a report from his family members, who were not happy with what he had been doing with little girls in his matrimonial home,” Mr Bakyasuwa said.

He, however, refused to reveal the names of either the suspected rapist or the victim for what he termed “some reasons”.

According to him, the names will be revealed “as soon as the suspected rapist is taken to court”.

Reports say the suspect not only confessed to having carnal knowledge of the teenage girl twice at different times in his house, but he had also lured the child with N100 for the first time and N200 on the second occasion.

He was exposed by his wives who informed the anti-thuggery committee, which led to his arrest.

The denied defileing the girl, arguing that his manhood was no longer functioning.

“I used my fingers to touch her womanhood and get satisfaction but I never used my manhood because of no erection,” he insisted.
