By EZEKIEL OBI, Abuja –
Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported that a suspected vandal was fatally electrocuted while attempting to tamper with Tower 34 along the Nkalagu-Abakaliki 132 Kilo Volt (kV) Line in Ebonyi State on July 19.
The company’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.
Mr. Mbah said the body of the deceased vandal, found hanging on the tower, has been removed.
She emphasized TCN’s ongoing efforts to curb vandalism, warning of the severe dangers associated with tampering with high-voltage transmission infrastructure.
She stated, “TCN has consistently warned against such acts, emphasising the potentially fatal consequences of tampering with transmission infrastructure which carries high voltages critical to national development and poses significant risks to health and safety”.
She further urged the public to remain vigilant, adding, “TCN urges the public to protect electricity infrastructure within their vicinity and report any suspicious activity around power installations to security operatives or any of its offices nationwide”.
