Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced that Operation Hadin Kai troops have detained two National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) members suspected of delivering arms to terrorists.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, revealed this during a Thursday briefing on nationwide military activities.
According to Kangye, the arrests occurred in Liya, Biu Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State. Additionally, troops apprehended 11 terrorist collaborators and freed seven kidnapped individuals in the North East.
He further noted that 16 family members of terrorists, comprising four women and 12 children, surrendered to troops in Bama LGA, Borno, on Monday. Initial probes indicate they came from Bakura Jega village.
Kangye revealed that the two NURTW members were caught in Liya, Biu LGA, after receiving a waybill from a truck driver, aligning with prior intelligence. The consignment included 13 military uniform pairs and high-voltage batteries, among other items.
On Sunday, troops also arrested a 65-year-old man at Damasak Motor Park in Yobe, identified as a logistics supplier for terrorists. Recovered items included arms, ammunition, and safely detonated improvised explosive devices (IEDs), along with N17,150.00 in cash.
In a separate operation, troops of Operation UDO KA apprehended a tax collector for the Indigenous People of Biafra and Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) in Anambra, with N1.5 million in his possession.
Kangye stated that the suspect, nabbed on July 10 in Ihiala LGA, was tasked by the group to collect taxes from locals. The troops recovered N1.5 million from him.
