Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, has expressed his heartfelt appreciation and commendation to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State for his unwavering financial and material support to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).
The Minister made this commendation during a two-day workshop of the Committee of Chief Medical Directors & Medical Directors of Federal Tertiary Hospitals in Nigeria (CCMDFTH) held at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Governor Zulum has been a stalwart supporter of the UMTH, providing significant contributions to the hospital’s development. His donations have included N1 billion to the Kidney Center, housing, wards, administrative offices, medical equipment, computer sets, and welfare packages for staff.
The Minister praised Governor Zulum’s commitment to the hospital’s growth and development, describing his contributions as tremendous and unique.
Professor Pate commended the achievements and leadership of the UMTH, encouraging the Chief Medical Director, Professor Ahmed Ahidjo, to maintain the tempo in influencing external supports and assistance to the hospital.
The Minister described Professor Ahidjo as a dedicated and committed leader of high standard and quality.
He promised to do his best to support and assist the largest hospital in the region, appreciating Governor Zulum’s contributions.
During the workshop, Governor Zulum announced a quarterly donation of N250 million to the UMTH Kidney Center for one year, starting from next month. This donation will be released on a quarterly basis directly to the center.
Governor Zulum commended the management of the hospital and appreciated the medical and health personnel for their efforts, encouragement, and dedication.
He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to continue supporting the hospital to serve the teeming population of Borno people, North East, and neighboring countries.
The Coordinating Minister, in the company of Governor Zulum and other dignitaries, commissioned several projects, including the Bola Ahmed Tinubu ICT Institute, Interventional Radiology Centre, Jibril Aminu Heart Centre, and Remodelled and Renovated GOPD with Mini-grid, and Cancer Center.
Other projects commissioned include the Molecular Laboratory Power for the GOPD, Community clinic, Assessment, Female ward, and Health Records Department (Electronic Health Record), Mallam Mari Primary Healthcare Centre MMC Maiduguri, and Abba Kyari New General Hospital at Bolori II, Nganaram.
The Chief Medical Director, Professor Ahmed Ahidjo, pledged to continue collaborating with all stakeholders, State governments, NGOs, public and private organizations towards the development and progress of the hospital.
He thanked the management staff, medical and health personnel for their unwavering contributions and support to the survival and stability of the UMTH.
