Nasarawa Governor, Abdullahi Sule
Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule has provided 100 electric vehicles, comprising 50 cars and 50 tricycles, to disadvantaged youths to promote economic development and eco-friendly practices in the state.
During the distribution event held on Thursday in Lafia, Sule emphasized that the initiative is designed to enable recipients to operate the vehicles as commercial ventures, helping to combat unemployment.
He highlighted that these vehicles run on electricity, unlike traditional petrol or Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles.
Sule also announced that a charging station has been set up at the new state secretariat in Lafia, with plans to establish additional stations in Akwanga and Keffi to serve the Nasarawa North and West Senatorial Districts.
He further committed to building more charging facilities across other local government areas in the future.
According to the governor, the initial batch of vehicles will be used in Lafia, Akwanga, and Keffi to transport civil servants to their workplaces, easing the impact of economic challenges.
“These vehicles will also serve students and staff at institutions like the Federal University of Lafia, College of Education in Akwanga, and the State University in Keffi,” he added.
Sule noted that the air-conditioned cars and tricycles can operate for a full day on a single charge, underscoring their efficiency.
He expressed confidence that the program would create sustainable income opportunities for recipients while contributing to environmental conservation.
Retired Justice Muhammad Sidi-Bage, the Emir of Lafia and Chairman of the Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs, praised Sule’s efforts to alleviate economic difficulties for residents.
He encouraged beneficiaries to use the vehicles responsibly to help lower local transportation costs, providing relief to the community.
The emir reaffirmed the traditional rulers’ commitment to supporting government initiatives, emphasizing their impartial stance and continued prayers for all political candidates, regardless of party affiliation.
