Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday formally presented Certificates of Return to the victors of the August 16 by-elections, marking the official induction of new senators and House of Representatives members.
The ceremony took place at INEC’s Abuja headquarters, with National Commissioners overseeing the process for their respective regions.
The newly elected senator for Anambra South, Emmanuel Nwachukwu, expressed his commitment to transformative leadership.
“My focus is on delivering meaningful representation, especially for business owners and individuals with disabilities,” Nwachukwu stated.
He emphasized tackling the region’s environmental challenges, noting, “Anambra South, often called Nigeria’s erosion capital, demands urgent action, and I’ll work with local and global experts to address this crisis.”
He also pledged to foster bipartisan cooperation to improve health, education, and infrastructure.
The APC senator-elect for Edo Central, Joseph Ikpea, vowed to honor his constituents’ trust, succeeding Monday Okpebholo, who stepped down to pursue Edo’s governorship.
“My service now will shape whether my people back me for another term,” Ikpea remarked, underscoring his dedication to accountable representation.
Omosede Igbinedion, the APC member-elect for Ovia Federal Constituency in Edo, also received her certificate, thanking President Bola Tinubu, the Edo State Governor, and her constituents.
“This victory belongs to the people, and I’ll strive to surpass their expectations in the National Assembly,” she affirmed.
INEC further announced that Certificates of Return for newly elected State Assembly members will be issued on Friday at 11 a.m. by Resident Electoral Commissioners at state offices, according to a statement from the commission (NAN).
