
Director General (DG) of Nasarawa State Market Management Bureau, Dr. Yakubu Ahmed Ubangari

Nasarawa State Market Management Bureau (MSMMB), has disclosed that it is generating over two hundred and sixty millions naira (N260,000,000) as revenue into government coffers annually.
Director General (DG) of the bureau, Dr. Yakubu Ahmed Ubangari, disclosed this in an exclusive interview with journalists in his office in Lafia on Wednesday.
The DG, who disclosed that the bureau currently has over 13 markets spread across the state, said they are only in charge of markers constructed by the state government.
According to the DG, three of the markets are in Lafia, one in Nasarawa Eggon, two in Akwanga, two in Keffi and four in Karu. Whereas those under construction are in Doma, Awe, Wamba and Nasarawa, are 90% completed.
When asked why are some of the shops in the above mentioned markets not occupied and what was government doing about the activities of some middle men allocated some shops, he said they are working towards addressing the issue.
“Like you rightly said, some shops were not occupied because of the activities of middle men. We as an agency lease it out to meddle men at the cost of N40,000 or N60,000 thousands, then middle men sublet to traders at the cost of over five hundred thousand thousand naira (N500,000), I think that’s what’s affecting the patronage” he said.
The DG who thanked Gov Sule, for his support to bureau at all times also thatnked the traders and marketers under the leadership of Turaki Gamji, for according his office the necessary support to enable it succeed.
He called on traders in the state to continue to cooperate with the bureau in her determination to serve them better for the good of Nasarawa State.
