
Strike

Academic and non-academic staff of higher education institutions in Nasarawa State, under the aegis of Joint Unions of Nasarawa State Tertiary Institutions (JUNSTI), is set to embark on indefinite strike over the non implementation of N30,000 minimum wage consequential adjustment, promotions and N70,500 minimum wage.
The institutions include Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic Lafia, College of Agriculture, Science & Technology, Lafia, and the College of Education, Akwanga.
A statement signed by the Chairman of JUNTSI, Comrade Samson Kale Gbande, his Secretary, Comrade Paul Olotu and made available to journalists in Lafia, indicated that the affected institutions are yet to enjoy all the increments, which necessitated their action.
“Arising from the emergency meeting of the Joint Unions of Nasarawa State Tertiary Institutions (JUNSTI), held on 4th February, 2025 the unions has resolved to embark on two weeks warning strike commencing from 12:00 midnight on Sunday, 9th to Thursday, 27th February, 2025”.
“The strike action is necessitated as a result of failure of Government to address union’s demands as stated in its letter of ultimatum dated 15th January, 2025on critical pending issues” the statement reads.
The joint unions includes ASUP, ASUCOAST, COAESU, SSANIP, SSUCOEN and NASU, said it has approached the Nasarawa State Government severally over what belonged to her but to no avail, “so the only option left is strike” Comrade Kale, said in a telephone interview.
