The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has emphasized the crucial role of telecom services in ensuring national security, particularly in addressing issues that require effective communication.
According to the Executive Vice-Chairman of NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, achieving national security would be impossible without effective telecommunication.
“Telecommunication services are now vital in all aspects of the economy.
“If the infrastructure is not well maintained, all socio-economic activities will be affected,” Maida said during an interactive session with the Nigeria Information Technology Reporters’ Association (NITRA) in Abuja.
Maida, represented by the Head of Corporate Communications Management, Public Affairs Department, Mrs. Nnena Ukoha, stated that NCC is working with security agencies to arrest and prosecute vandals of Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) across Nigeria.
“Anyone found liable for damaging or disrupting CNII will be prosecuted going forward,” he warned.
The NCC boss highlighted the importance of stable telecommunication infrastructure for every sector of the economy.
“Telecommunication infrastructure plays a vital role in national security due to increasing cyber threats and vulnerabilities that can damage and disrupt communication infrastructure,” he said.
Maida also noted that telecom services contribute to the growth of a digital society, providing an enabling environment for socialization and access to services.
“Without a robust telecommunication infrastructure, the public cannot fully enjoy these services provided,” he added.
