NEDC, Borno Govt embark on construction of road networks

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) in conjunction with the Borno State Government and other critical stakeholders in the State have identified the 22.5 Km Ngowom – Koshebe and Ngowom – Dusman – Zabarmari – Gongulong – Khaddarmari Road among others for urgent construction due to the area’s vital role in rice production.

 

The Managing Director/CEO, NEDC, Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali, said one of the major reasons behind the joint construction of improving these road networks will bring several benefits, such as: enhanced connectivity if the areas with the other parts of the state and country.

 

Alhaji Alkali stated this on Saturday at Mgom Village during the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the 22.5 Jere Bowl Road network.

 

He stressed that “better roads facilitate smoother transportation, connecting communities and improving accessibility to essential services and economic growth: as well as improve roads, boost trade which has commenced by enabling the efficient movement of goods and services.

 

He further explained that the road network project will improve social development: upgrade road networks to enhance social interactions, promote tourism, and improve overall quality of livelihood of the residents and farmers as well as the fishermen and their dealers/sellers

 

According to him, the road network project will serve as an emergency response. For a well-maintained roads that will enable faster emergency services, and ensure timely assistance during critical situations, especially agricultural development: by Improving road infrastructure to support the transportation of agricultural produce, benefiting farmers and the local economy.

 

The MD NEDC also said the new road is also expected to stimulate economic activities, enhance security, and facilitate the free movement of goods and people in the popularly known “Jere-Bowl” of the state. This is Phase 1 of the Roads, a 2nd phase is also in the pipeline.

 

He added that the road has three segments as follows: 10.5 Km (Galameri)Ngowom – Koshebe, 3.5 Km Ngowom – Dusman, 8.5Km Gongulon-Zabarmari Khaddamari.

 

While the JERE BOWL Road Network is spanning across 22.5 km stretch comprising NGWOM-KASHEBE Road covering 10.5km, GONGULONG-ZABARMARI-KHADDAMAR Road stretching over 8.5km, and GALAMERI-DASUMAN Road is spanning a distance of 3.5km and these roads are located in Jere/Mafa LGA, Borno State.
