Bauchi APC Governorship candidate, Sadique Abubakar
By ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi –
The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, Sadique Abubakar, has described the new Government House being built by Governor Bala Mohammed as a misplaced priority.
He said that the government, instead of spending billions of Naira in building the new Government House, should have used such money to improve on the education sector which still has pupils still sitting on the floor and under trees to learn.
NATIONAL ACCORD reports that Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum who is the Chairman of the North-East Governors’ Forum, on March 6th, 2021, laid the foundation for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Bauchi State Government House, awarded at the cost of N6. 2 billion by the Bala Mohammed led administration.
But Abubakar, a former Chief of Air Staff, who lost the election to the incumbent Governor Mohammed, while speaking with journalists upon his arrival back to the State at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, Bauchi, on Monday, said what the people need is not a new Government House.
He expressed optimism that he will reclaim his mandate at the Bauchi State Gubernatorial Election Petition Tribunal because the judiciary is trustworthy and reliable.
He said: “I want to thank the people of Bauchi for their patience and understanding considering what happened after the elections. I want them to continue to remain peaceful and I believe that the judicial system in Nigeria is one that is reliable and I am sure that at the end of the day, we will be able to get out mandate back.
“Once that mandate is back, what we promised the people of Bauchi is what we are going to do. I want to thank the people for their prayers and their goodwill.
“We believe that the courts are reliable and trustworthy and they will look at the facts we have brought before them and I am sure that at the end of the day, we will come out victorious.
“I know that the people would not want the old system to continue to be in place – the old system of the non-payment of salaries, the old system of children sitting on the ground to learn, whereas they are building a big Government House worth billions of Naira, which is not the top priority of the people of Bauchi.”
