The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Maikalangu
Mr Christopher Maikalangu, the Chairman Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), has assured residents of the council area of his administration’s commitment to take development to rural communities in the New Year.
The chairman made the commitment in his New Year message signed by his media aide, Mr Kingsley Madaki, in Abuja.
Maikalangu, who commended the residents for exhibiting virtues of unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence over the years, said that the first quarter of the year would be focused on project delivery and implementation.
He said that the new cashless revenue transaction policy was fully on course in the council area, adding “it is expected to be paid off by the first quarter of the year”.
The chairman called on the Ministers of the FCT to embark on a tour of not only the satellite towns but of villages to be able to understand the deprivations and retardation experienced daily by the grassroots people.
“We have collated their needs assessment and built them in the budget awaiting appropriate action.
“This administration is determined to uplift the living standards of the common man through a concerted effort of implementing our budget, the People’s Budget, in 2023.
“We are also hopeful that in the New Year, allocations from the Federation and remittances from the Federal Capital Territory Administration, especially FCT Internal Revenue Service, will be done timely.
“While we remain committed to exploring the instrumentality of entrenching good and transparent governance, we have begun the process of re-engineering the mechanism of strengthening the council’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
“Part of our good governance model is our resolve to justifying the collection of every single kobo earned by providing public infrastructure within the municipality and the highly disadvantaged rural areas.”
According to him, the administration efforts at repositioning the council for better service delivery is yielding dividends as staff of the council have become alive to their responsibilities and keyed into the public service reform agenda of the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari.
He reiterated that his administration’s focus and vision remained to concentrate on being responsive to the wellbeing and welfare of all residents by delivering on their infrastructural and social needs where possible. (NAN)
