Labour Party (LP) has announced new dates for its ward, local government, and state congresses, as well as its 2026 National Convention, in what party leaders described as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen internal democracy and organisational structure ahead of future political engagements.
In a press statement issued on April 14, 2026, and signed by the National Chairman, Distinguished Senator Nenadi, the party outlined a four-day schedule for the congresses culminating in the national convention.
According to the statement, the Ward Congress will take place on Thursday, April 23, 2026, followed by the Local Government Area (LGA) Congress on Friday, April 24, 2026. The State Congress is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2026, while the National Convention will hold on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
The statement reads:
“(1): Ward Congress: Thursday 23rd April, 2026
(2): LGA Congress: Friday 24th April, 2026
(3): State Congress: Saturday 25th April, 2026
(4): National Convention: Tuesday 28th April, 2026.”
The Labour Party leadership also announced that membership registration is still ongoing, encouraging new and existing members to take advantage of the party’s digital platform.
“Membership Registration on the E-Registration portal continues registration.labourpartynigeria.org.ng,” the statement added.
Political observers note that the announcement signals the party’s preparations to consolidate its structures nationwide and position itself for upcoming political contests.
The congresses are expected to produce party executives at various levels, while the National Convention will serve as a platform for key decisions regarding party leadership and strategic direction.
Party stakeholders, delegates, and members across the country have been urged to participate actively in the process to ensure a transparent and credible exercise.
