In a heartfelt tribute to the late former President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved a series of special mourning activities to celebrate his legacy.
The centerpiece of these activities is an expanded Special Session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) scheduled for Thursday, July 17, at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Special FEC Meeting, a rare and significant gathering, will bring together the leadership of the National Assembly, including the Senate and House of Representatives, the Judiciary, and representatives of the late former President’s family.
The session will reflect on Buhari’s contributions to Nigeria’s development, unity, and stability during his tenure.
“President Tinubu’s decision to convene this expanded FEC session underscores the immense respect and admiration the nation holds for former President Buhari,” said Rabiu Ibrahim, Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Information and National Orientation.
“This is a moment for all Nigerians to come together and honor a leader who served with dedication and integrity.” He said.
Earlier on Thursday, Vice President Kashim Shetima will lead a high-level Federal Government delegation, including Cabinet Ministers, to Daura, Katsina State, for the Third Day prayer at Buhari’s residence.
“The prayers in Daura will be a solemn occasion to reflect on the late President’s life and his unwavering commitment to Nigeria,” Vice President Shetima remarked.
The mourning activities will continue with a Special Prayer Session at the National Mosque in Abuja on Friday, July 18, fostering a moment of spiritual unity for Nigerians of all faiths.
On Sunday, July 20, a Special Church Service will further honor Buhari’s memory, symbolizing the inclusivity that defined his leadership.
“These events are not just ceremonies; they are a testament to the unity and shared values that President Buhari championed throughout his life,” said Senate President, who will be attending the FEC session. “His legacy will continue to inspire generations.”
The series of events reflects Nigeria’s deep appreciation for Buhari’s contributions, from his anti-corruption efforts to his work in strengthening national security and fostering economic reforms.
As the nation gathers to mourn and celebrate, the activities will serve as a reminder of the enduring impact of his leadership.
